“They don’t have to do it alone; we are in their corner cheering them on!”
Pregnancy is filled with excitement, anticipation, and hope, but it can also bring uncertainty. For many women, preparing to welcome a new baby means searching for affordable essentials, navigating countless changes, and wondering where to turn for support. During a season when mothers should feel encouraged, even simple needs can feel overwhelming. That’s where Seeds Maternity is making a difference, offering not only affordable maternity essentials, but also encouragement, practical resources, and a community that walks alongside mothers every step of the way.

The idea for Seeds Maternity started with a simple question.
“What do new and expectant moms in the Upper Cumberland need most?” the organization shared.
After reaching out to local mom groups and community members, one answer stood out.
“At the time, there was nowhere in the area for moms to shop in person for affordable maternity clothing and essentials. We saw an opportunity to meet that practical need while creating something more meaningful: a welcoming place where moms could find not only the products they needed, but also connection, encouragement, and access to community resources.”
As the nonprofit began serving expectant and postpartum mothers, another need quickly became clear. Many women were facing financial uncertainty during unpaid maternity leave, creating stress at a time that should be focused on caring for a new baby.
That realization inspired the creation of the Maternity Leave Assistance (MLA) Program, which provides short term financial support to mothers experiencing hardship during pregnancy and early motherhood.

Seeds Maternity operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit program of Birth Tissue Donor Services of America, creating a unique model where every purchase helps support another family. Proceeds from merchandise sales, along with fundraising efforts and the generosity of community partners and donors, directly fund the MLA Program, creating what the organization describes as “a cycle of support: moms shop, the community gives, and moms in need receive practical help when they need it most.”
Seeds Maternity recently relocated to Broadway Boutique Mall on Cookeville’s west side, joining a collection of other local retailers under one roof. The new location offers shoppers an opportunity to discover the nonprofit’s mission while supporting other small businesses in the community.
Visitors to Seeds Maternity will find far more than maternity clothes. The boutique offers maternity and nursing apparel, postpartum recovery essentials, support products, and thoughtfully selected items designed to make pregnancy and early motherhood more comfortable. It also hosts Mom Model Calls, inviting real mothers to model new arrivals in a relaxed photo session while celebrating their changing bodies and building confidence. Every participating mom receives a shopping voucher because, as the organization says, “every mom deserves to feel clothed in confidence.”
The true impact of Seeds Maternity isn’t measured in clothing sold, but in the mothers whose burdens have been lightened because someone chose to help.
One mother who received assistance through the MLA Program shared, “I’m just crying right now. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you guys did for me. You are truly the best and I appreciate you guys more than anything. This has given me the opportunity to catch up and I couldn’t be more thankful.”
For the team behind Seeds Maternity, moments like that define their mission.
“We want moms to feel comfortable and confident during this season of life and know that they don’t have to do it alone; we are in their corner cheering them on!” the organization said.
As Seeds Maternity looks toward the future, its goal is to continue expanding the Maternity Leave Assistance Program so even more families can receive support when they need it most. By growing its fundraising network and strengthening community partnerships, the organization hopes to ensure even more mothers receive the practical assistance they need during one of life’s most transformative seasons.
Above all, the organization hopes every mother walks away with one lasting message: “Seeds Maternity is here to clothe moms in confidence and practically support them during pregnancy and postpartum.”
