The Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation (GELF) selects 10 Tennessee 3rd graders to serve as GELF’s literacy ambassadors each year and receive a post-secondary education scholarship, based on their ability to overcome obstacles along their literacy journey from “learning to read” to “reading to learn.”
Based on the core values of Tenn Under 10 and inspired by her literacy story, Berkley Young, a third grader at Burks Elementary, was selected as a 2024 Tenn Under 10 “Literacy Leader” scholar.
Honorees will serve as literacy ambassadors and will be featured in GELF’s marketing and communications throughout the year, including but not limited to video production, social media, and outreach to press, as well as serving as a representative and role model for other children and schools throughout the state of Tennessee.
Cookeville is honored to recognize and celebrate Berkley Young for her hard work and determination, as well as continuous dedication to all children’s literacy journeys.
