Kayaking the Upper Cumberland

Summertime is here and outdoor adventure is at the top of our list. In the heat of the summer season, nothing feels better than an excursion on the water. With that in mind, we have so many great suggestions for floating, boating and paddling your way through the Upper Cumberland.

Imagine yourself gently gliding down the Caney Fork River with Canoe the Caney, where every stroke of the paddle brings you closer to breathtaking views and unforgettable moments. Whether you have never picked up a paddle, or you are a seasoned kayaker, the river’s strong current will lead you to your destination with minimal effort.

If a challenge is more your style, book a guided trip with Kayaking Adventures of Tennessee where experienced guides will take you on a scenic 4-mile lake journey to the base of Burgess Falls. Once there, you can enjoy the cool breeze as it mingles with the cascading falls towering over 250 feet in the air. If you crave even more adventure, step out of your kayak to swim beneath the falls and enjoy a one-of-a-kind experience like no other. If you want the entire family to enjoy a day on the water, but not all have paddle abilities, recruit Dabbling Duck Boat Charters to book a pontoon boat tour to the base of the falls for those that cannot manage the exertion of kayaking.

And finally, if a low key, self-guided day is what you are after, then Wildwood Marina in Granville, Tennessee may be just the ticket.

Book your kayak or paddle board by the day or by the hour with Granville Paddle and Board and relax in the tranquility of a wake-free lake. With a reservation, your kayak or board will be waiting for you by the water’s edge, and you can immediately be on your way. When you complete your journey, the marina has a snack bar and gift shop, along with Lakeside Restaurant with waterfront views featuring indoor or outdoor dining experiences. For a more rugged, self-guided option, the Meadow Creek Outpost in Monterey, Tennessee offers a kayak and paddleboard rental experience to get away from it all with over 90-acres of lake to explore and conquer.

For the competitor in all of us, mark your calendar every year for the Row’n the River Race and Fun Float in Gainesboro, Tennessee featuring a 6-mile race or fun float for all ages. Whatever way you choose to hit the water, make this summer a time for outdoor adventures and family fun.
