Nick’s Restaurant and Lounge | A Cookeville Tradition Since 1971

Some restaurants are places you eat. Others are places you belong. For generations of Cookeville residents, Nick’s Restaurant and Lounge has always been the latter.

Founded in 1971 by Nick Pappas, the restaurant has been a cornerstone of Cookeville’s dining scene for more than five decades. What began as a straightforward sit-down restaurant has evolved into something much more meaningful, a gathering place where birthdays are celebrated, business deals are made, and families return year after year because some traditions are simply too good to break.

Nick’s is known for its steaks, its Greek-influenced dishes, and the kind of consistent quality that keeps customers coming back decade after decade. The menu reflects the Pappas family’s heritage and their commitment to doing things the right way, with fresh ingredients, time-tested recipes, and a kitchen that takes pride in every plate that goes out.

But ask most regulars what they love most about Nick’s and they will not start with the food. They will start with the feeling.

“There is something about walking into Nick’s that just feels right,” one longtime customer shared. “It feels like home.”

That feeling is no accident. It is the result of decades of intentional hospitality, a staff that knows its regulars by name, and an ownership family that has remained hands-on and present through every chapter of the restaurant’s history.

The Pappas family has weathered the challenges that come with more than fifty years in the restaurant business, economic downturns, changing tastes, a global pandemic, and the rapid growth of Cookeville’s dining scene. Through it all, Nick’s has remained steady, a constant in a city that has changed dramatically around it.

For the family, that consistency is both a point of pride and a responsibility.

“Our customers have trusted us for a long time,” they shared. “We never take that for granted. Every day we come in here, we are trying to be worthy of that trust.”

As Cookeville continues to grow and new restaurants open at a steady pace, Nick’s Restaurant and Lounge stands as proof that longevity in this business is earned, not given. It is built one meal, one visit, and one relationship at a time.

More than fifty years in, Nick’s is still exactly where it has always been, and exactly what this community needs it to be.
